Occurrence Trend investigation into Signals Passed At Stop on the Luas network
Occurrence Date 03 January 2020

Basis for Recommendation

There is a definitive link between Signal Passed at Stop (SPAS) events on the Luas and the timings of scheduled meal breaks; in particular, SPAS events are occurring where drivers are due to take their meal breaks; these may be related to driver fatigue. Recommendation

Transdev Dublin Light Rail (TDLR) should, with the assistance of a qualified human factors expert, review the timings and locations of Signal Passed at Stop (SPAS) incidents to establish reasons as to why drivers are involved in SPAS incidents at certain times and locations.
