Although it is noted that the derailing points at Kilcolgan Level Crossing have now been fitted with automatic derailing points mechanisms; given the risk to road users at other Bord na Móna level crossings, this should be expanded to locations vulnerable to misuse; as a result, the RAIU make the following safety recommendation
Bord na Móna should identify locations where derailing points are vulnerable to unauthorised movements and provide a means of securing the derailing points at these locations.
